The essays on this site are written by 7th grade honors students in Ms. Pawlak's English Language Arts class at Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School in Philadelphia, PA. This honors ELA course engages in completing State Standards objectives through project-based learning and inquiry. What are State Standards objectives? State Standards objectives are state-wide learning goals that students are tested on according to their grade level. Mariana Bracetti is dedicated to continuous progress in our state examination scores. How does Mariana Bracetti Academy complete State Standards objectives? We prepare our students for success on these state-wide exams through quarterly benchmark practice exams and backwards-designed units that turn State Standards objectives into founding essential questions and enduring understandings for these units. What is project-based learning? Project-based learning breaks down the walls of the classroom and guides students through exploring real world problems and challenges. Learning objectives are accomplished not through direct instruction and exams; rather, learning and assessments are completed through rigorous projects. What does project-based learning look like in a classroom? Students work on projects independently or collaboratively in groups of four. Learning is student-led, meaning students are allowed to navigate their assigned topic and explore learning based on their own interests and curiosities. What is inquiry-based learning? What does inquiry in a classroom look like? |
